New Delhi: India today rejected the statements made by White House Trade Advisor Peter Navarro as ‘’inaccurate and misleading’’ and hoped that relations with US would continue to move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests.

‘’We have seen inaccurate and misleading statements by Mr Navarro and obviously we reject them,’’ External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said at a press conference here.

Mr Navarro has in several statements criticised India for buying oil from Russia and called India the “oil money laundromat for Kremlin.” He accused New Delhi of “strategic freeloading” at the expense of Washington. He also tried to play a caste card on India saying ‘Brahmins’ were profiteering at the expense of Indian people.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the relationship between India and the United States ‘important’ saying both countries share a ‘comprehensive and global strategic partnership’.

“Both countries share a comprehensive, global strategic partnership, which is anchored in a shared interest, democratic values and robust people-to-people ties. This partnership has weathered several transitions and challenges. We remain focused on the substantive agenda that our two countries have committed to, and we hope that the relationship will continue to move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests,” he said.

On the conflict in Ukraine he reaffirmed India’s stand saying ‘’India supports an early end to the conflict in Ukraine.’’ He said India welcomed the recent efforts towards peace and normalisation of situation in Ukraine. ‘’We hope that all parties will proceed constructively.’’
