Srinagar, Sep 4 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Students Association on Thursday said it has taken up the issue with Himachal Pradesh authorities for the return of mortal remains of seven Kashmiri labourers who lost their lives in a landslide in the Kullu–Manali region.

Association’s National Convenor Nasir Khuehami told news agency JKNS that they have spoken to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s office. “Special Secretary Rajiv Kumar, Advisor to CM Ritesh Keprate and multiple other officers assured that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the situation. Despite bad weather, rescue teams have so far retrieved one body while search operations for others are continuing.”

Khuehami said the NDRF, ITBP, SSB, Home Guards, Fire Department and local police have been pressed into service to trace the missing persons. “The SP Kullu is camping on the spot, and all possible measures are being taken,” he said.

“The state government has assured us of full support, including facilitating the transportation of the deceased labourers back to Kashmir. We requested the CM’s office to expedite the process so that the families in Kashmir can perform the last rites of their loved ones without further delay,” Khuehami added. (JKNS)
