Srinagar: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg today said that the next six
to eight hours are “very crucial” as water levels at key flood gauges in Sangam in Anantnag and Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar continue to rise amid relentless rainfall in south Kashmir.

He said that while rain water levels had briefly receded during the day, the situation is being closely monitored with field teams of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department on the ground.

“Some villages in Kulgam, Anantnag and Pulwama are undergoing preventive evacuation, and similar precautionary measures are being activated in parts of Srinagar to ensure that no harm
comes to anyone,” Garg said.

The official appealed to people to cooperate with advisories issued by field teams comprising revenue officials, magistrates, police, SDRF and other agencies.
He said over 300 relief shelters have been identified across districts, equipped with blankets,
rations, power and water supply to accommodate evacuees.

The Divisional Commissioner reassured the public that essential supplies including LPG, petrol
and diesel are sufficient across the Valley, while health, power and telecom services are functioning normally.
“There is no need for panic. The situation is under control, but the next 6–8 hours are critical. Citizens are advised to stay alert and follow directions from the administration,” he said.
In the wake of flood like situation, authorities have also ordered closure of all educational institutions in Kashmir tomorrow.
