Officials told news agency JKNS that the operation was carried out on specific intelligence inputs regarding the storage of stale and foul-smelling meat. A team led by Hilal Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety ICLC, and Yameen Ul Nabi, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, along with Food Safety Officers, conducted a raid and found the consignment unfit for human consumption.

“The meat was immediately destroyed under strict supervision to ensure it could not reach the market. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the concerned Food Business Operators under the Food Safety and Standards Act,” an official said.

The department has reiterated strict adherence to temperature control for perishable goods, warning of stern action against any Food Business Operator found violating food safety norms. “This enforcement drive is in line with the directions of Secretary Health and Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed and Commissioner FDA Smt. Smita Sethi to maintain strict vigil over food markets,” the official added.

Consumers have been urged to report any suspected cases of food adulteration or unhygienic practices by contacting the department’s helpline at 104. (JKNS)
