Srinagar, July 21 (JKNS): Minister for Health and Education Sakina Masood Itoo on Monday emphasized the urgent need to arrest the main handlers of the drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that targeting only lower-level offenders would not suffice in curbing the crisis.

Talking to media persons, minister Sakina Itoo as per news agency JKNS said the drug issue is an alarming concern that requires a united societal effort. “To protect our young generation and build a drug-free Kashmir, all stakeholders be it families, communities, or religious leaders must actively participate in this campaign,” she said.

Itoo said that it is not possible for the health and police departments alone to tackle the crisis. “We must go after the big fish. If those running the networks behind the scenes are not brought to justice, the menace will continue to grow,” she added.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, she lauded the efforts being taken so far but urged clerics, community leaders, and civil society to step forward and guide the youth away from substance abuse. (JKNS)
