Drinking Water Crisis Hits Shia-Majority Areas of Khansahib Amid Muharram

Residents in Batapora, Bugchil, Talapora, Sheikhwadipora Say PHE Provides Water Only 2 Hours Daily

Budgam, July 5 (JKNS): Amid the ongoing Muharram observances, several Shia-populated villages in Khansahib area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district are reeling under a severe shortage of drinking water, with locals alleging that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is supplying water for only two hours in 24 hours.

Residents from Batapora, Bugchil, Talapora, and Sheikhwadipora told news agency JKNS that they have been left helpless at a time when water demand has increased due to religious processions and gatherings.

“Even during these sacred days, we are getting water for barely two hours. It is impossible to manage cooking, cleaning, or even serving water to mourners during Majlis and processions,” said a local from Batapora.

The locals urged the administration to ensure uninterrupted water supply at least during Muharram days. “It’s a matter of dignity and faith. The authorities must intervene immediately,” another resident from Sheikhwadipora said.

Despite repeated pleas, no action has been taken so far, they alleged.

The residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Budgam and officials of the PHE Department to restore regular water supply without delay, especially keeping in view the spiritual significance of Muharram. (JKNS)
