Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas today expressed his readiness to cooperate with US President Donald Trump to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement that ensures security and stability in the Middle East.
In a letter addressed to Trump, as reported by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, Abbas welcomed recent diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, including the ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
He described the ceasefire as a “necessary and important step” toward resolving regional crises.
Abbas praised Trump’s stance on the situation in the Gaza Strip, particularly his call for an immediate and lasting ceasefire.
He said such efforts represent a constructive move toward establishing a just and comprehensive peace between Palestinians and Israelis, while restoring hope to the peoples of the region.
The Palestinian president affirmed his willingness to coordinate with the United States, Arab and international partners, and other parties to resume peace negotiations.
He stressed the importance of defining a clear and binding timeline to end the Israeli occupation and achieve sustainable peace and security for all.
He also emphasised the role of regional and international stakeholders — including Saudi Arabia, other Arab and Islamic countries, and the European Union — in supporting the peace process.
On June 13, Israel launched major airstrikes on several areas in Iran, including nuclear and military sites, killing senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. Iran responded by launching several waves of missile and drone attacks on Israel, inflicting casualties and causing heavy damage. UNI XINHUA
