Srinagar, Jun 13 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad, calling it a profoundly unfortunate incident and demanded a thorough investigation into its cause.
Speaking to reporters outside his residence in Srinagar, CM Omar as per news agency JKNS said, “It is an extremely unfortunate incident. Within just a minute of takeoff, except for one survivor, all others onboard lost their lives in this tragedy,” he said, referring to the Air India Boeing Dreamliner crash.
“As of now, it is still unclear whether anyone on the ground or from the nearby medical college doctors or students may have also lost their lives in this horrific accident,” he added.
CM Omar said, “What is also distressing is that this aircraft, a Boeing Dreamliner, had never been involved in any such major accident before. We express our deepest condolences to the families of all the passengers and to the Air India crew on board.”
“We hope that the causes behind this crash are soon uncovered so that such a tragedy is not repeated again in the future,” Omar added.
CM Omar said, “Of course, it will escalate. This attack has an immediate impact not only on fuel prices and the stock market but also on international flights headed westward. More importantly, it affects public sentiment across the world,” CM Omar said.
“As far as I know, Iran did not give Israel any provocation to justify this attack. Yet, Israel chose to label it a ‘pre-emptive strike’ and waged war against a sovereign nation,” he said.
“If global powers remain silent on this, it would be extremely regrettable. What Israel has done today is no different from what Russia did in Ukraine,” he said.
“The world quickly condemns Russia for its actions in Ukraine, but when Israel strikes Iran, these same global powers including America, Europe, and others remain silent. If attacking another sovereign nation is wrong in the case of Russia, then how can Israel’s attack on Iran be justified in any way?” CM Omar said. (JKNS)
