Jammu: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a high-level review meeting Tuesday to assess preparedness for Amarnath Yatra here at Yatri Niwas.
The review was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh; Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation Dr Devansh Yadav; Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh; ACR Dr Rajesh Kumar; Tehsildar Param Deep Singh and the officers from police, security agencies and the line departments.
Key issues discussed in the meeting included the fast-tracking of X-ray scanning installation, establishment of frisking points, regular maintenance of rooms and public facilities and setting up of permanent security posts. The need for fencing the premises was also highlighted to enhance overall security.
The meeting focussed on improvements on last year’s practices and fine-tuning strategies based on past experiences.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that this year’s arrangements must be more robust, with enhanced facilities and better coordination among all departments involved. “Learning from last year’s experience, this review will help us improve and anticipate the needs of the pilgrims more effectively,” he stated.
The Power Development Department was directed to prioritise the installation of lighting fixtures to ensure adequate illumination in the premises. Suggestions from the security agencies were taken into consideration to strengthen the safety infrastructure.
Further, the meeting addressed the operational readiness of ticketing counters, information kiosks and a fully functional Primary Health Centre to provide timely medical aid. The Fire and Emergency Services Department was instructed to conduct fire drills to assess and enhance emergency preparedness.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the Yatri Niwas complex to personally review the arrangements being made on the ground.
