Bandipora: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, on Friday conducted an extensive tour of the Sumbal sub-division to assess the status of irrigation infrastructure ahead of the upcoming agricultural season.
During the visit, DC inspected several irrigation canals and lift irrigation schemes across key areas including Pahalyari, Zajyari, Galibal, Hakabara, Paribal, Markundal, Wangipora Khurwan, Shadipora, Naribal Ganastan, Boon, Shahgund and other adjoining areas.
Qadri interacted with the officials from the Irrigation & Flood Control department and Mechanical Irrigation division to understand ground-level challenges, identify existing issues, and discuss strategies for improving water management.
Reviewing the functionality of pump stations and distribution networks, DC emphasized regular monitoring and prompt grievance redressal, ensuring timely support to the farmers.
Highlighting the critical role of irrigation in agricultural sustainability, DC urged officers to ensure equitable access to irrigation facilities for all farmers to support their livelihoods and enhanced crop productivity.
While reviewing the functionality of pump stations at Markundal, Paribal, and Ganastan, Qadri observed certain technical issues hindering optimal performance and directed the concerned departments to immediately initiate repair and maintenance work to ensure uninterrupted irrigation to the agricultural fields.
During the field visit, DC was accompanied by officers from the I&FC department, Mechanical Irrigation, and other concerned departments.
