Handwara: Tragedy deepened on Friday as another girl student injured in the Handwara college bus accident succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to SKIMS Srinagar, taking the death toll to two.

Official sources told news agency JKNS that Mymoona Ali, daughter of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Sogam Chotiwari, lost her battle for life while en route to SKIMS for specialized treatment.

She was among the critically injured in the tragic incident that occurred earlier in the day when a college bus carrying 27 people, including students and staff, overturned in Vodpora area of Handwara. The students were heading toward Srinagar for a picnic when the mishap occurred.

Earlier, Tabasum Mushtaq, another girl student from GDC Sogam, had died on the spot, while at least 18 others sustained injuries. Among them, two had been shifted to Srinagar for advanced care.

The accident has left the entire region in mourning, with condolences pouring in from across political and social circles. Top leaders including the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, and Sajad Lone have expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended support to the affected families.
