JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended ‘Bihar Kesari Samman’ Samaroh at Patna and felicitated eminent personalities with the prestigious award for their distinguished services.

The award is given in the honor of Dr. Shri Krishna Singh, the great freedom fighter and first Chief Minister of Bihar.

The Lieutenant Governor paid tributes to Dr. Shri Krishna Singh and recalled his significant contribution to the development of Bihar and the nation building.

“Shri Krishna Singh was the creator of modern Bihar. By initiating agricultural reforms, river development projects in the first five-year plan and subsequently building the monuments of modern Bihar like Barauni Refinery, Heavy Engineering Corporation, Barauni Fertilizer Plant, Barauni Thermal Power Station, Damodar Valley Corporation, Patratu Power Station, Scooter Factory, Garhara Locomotive Shed, First Railway and Road Bridge of Independent India Rajendra Setu, Netarhat School, Engineering Colleges in Muzaffarpur, Jamshedpur, Sindri, Gaya, Motihari etc., he made Bihar the powerhouse of the country’s progress.

Shri Krishna Singh was fondly called Shri Babu. His name is recorded in golden letters in the tradition of great personalities who were born in Bihar and dedicated themselves to nation-building. He laid the foundation for industries and infrastructure.

Shri Babu had independent consciousness right from his teenage years and I believe that it was this spirit which helped him become an embodiment of good governance. During his tenure Bihar became one of the fastest developing states,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted public welfare and empowerment of poor and underprivileged sections of the society by him.

“Shri Babu was a true statesman who worked hard to eliminate discrimination in the society and looked at Bihar in its entirety and created its new existence through good governance. He was the harbinger of good governance. He worked hard for social equality and social unity and made it the most powerful state of the country.

Be it the abolition of the Zamindari system, making the poor and marginalised farmers self-reliant or the overall welfare of workers, Shri Babu was dedicated to the welfare of the people and liberated a large population from exploitation after independence,” the Lieutenant Governor further said.

The Lieutenant Governor called upon the enlightened citizens and every section of the society, especially the youth to unite for the cause of public good and give new direction to India’s development journey.

“I want people to keep our civilisational values alive. History bears testimony to the fact that Unity always ensured progress and overall development.

We need to understand that those who pursue a divisive agenda want to divide us to stall the journey of Viksit Bharat. We must stand up as One and dedicate ourselves for growth and prosperity of the nation,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The Lieutenant Governor further emphasised that Rural India should be the focus for sustainable and equitable path of growth.

He said, “To accelerate socio-economic growth, we should focus on forging public-private partnerships. Our rich inheritance of values of harmony is a solid foundation of inclusive development.

Today, we have to start thinking about the future of tomorrow that we want to build. Societal attitude needs to be changed towards the contribution in this journey. Holistic Development is a collective responsibility of the society”.
