Kathua: In line with the Government of India’s commitment to create a drug-free society, JKSPYM SLCA J&K Thursday organized a one-day training program for master volunteers of District Kathua as part of the NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
The event was attended by Additional District Commissioner Kathua, Ranjit Singh, District Social Welfare Officer, VarunChoudhary and other officials of the Social Welfare Department.
Addressing the gathering, ADC expressed concern over the rising trend of substance abuse among youth in Jammu and Kashmir, urging the master volunteers to fully benefit from the training and apply the knowledge gained to fight drug addiction in the district.
The program commenced with a welcome note, followed by an introduction to JKSPYM and SLCA J&K by Program Director, JKSPYM Pallavi Singh.
As many as 64 master volunteers participated in the training, which included four sessions on various aspects of drug de-addiction, such as “Information on Drugs, Drug Use, and its Consequences,” “District Level NashaMukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” “Intervention Spectrum in Drug Treatment and Prevention,” and “Roles and Responsibilities of Master Volunteers and NashaMukt Bharat Leaders.”
Resource persons from SLCA delivered comprehensive presentations, highlighting the growing prevalence of drug use in India.
The training program enhanced participants’ understanding of substance abuse while equipping them with the necessary skills to become advocates for drug prevention in their communities. The program concluded with the distribution of certificates, marking not only the end of the event but the beginning of the volunteers’ journey as agents of change in promoting a drug-free society in Kathua. ‎
