Budgam: Amid ongoing dry weather conditions in Kashmir Valley, officials urged the public to use water judiciously while assuring that the department is prepared to tackle the situation.
Talking to media persons, as per news agency JKNS, X-En PHE Budgam, Shakeel-ur-Rehman said, “Kashmir Valley has not witnessed such a dry winter in the past at least 100 years. This is the first time we are seeing such a dry winter here. There is no doubt that the water levels in rivers, lakes, and springs have drastically decreased, and some are completely dry. However, there is no need to panic at this moment; we need to pray for more snowfall.
First, people need to change their mindset. I request people to use water judiciously. If you were using 100% of your water, now use only 50%, he requested.
We are fully prepared to tackle the situation, but the department’s limited resources are a severe issue. Whatever supplementary plans the department is implementing, we are on it.
In Magam, as we observe, we are receiving only 30% of the required water supply. I have been sending tankers there for the past few days and have also spoken to the locals.”—(JKNS)
