The swearing-in ceremony will be live streamed on the official handle of the Apex Court.

With Justice Chandran’s appointment, the Supreme Court will now function with 33 judges against the sanctioned strength of 34, including the CJI. The vacancy arises as Justice Hrishikesh Roy is set to retire on January 31.

Earlier, on January 7, the Supreme Court Collegium, comprising CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justices B.R. Gavai, Surya Kant, Hrishikesh Roy, and Abhay S. Oka, recommended Justice Chandran’s elevation to the Supreme Court bench.
