May 09: Police in Budgam have arrested a timber smuggler and seized illicit timber along with a vehicle.
Acting on specific information about timber smuggling, a police party from Police Station Khag established a checkpoint at Poshkar area during the intervening night of 08/09 May. At the checkpoint, a vehicle (Tata mobile) driven by Hilal Ahmad Resray son of Ali Mohd Resray resident of Hamchipora was signalled to stop but he tried to flee from the spot. The police party tactfully stopped the vehicle and during search, it was found that the vehicle is loaded with 14 logs of illicit timber. The driver of the said vehicle failed to produce any documents regarding the loaded timber and was subsequently arrested.
The arrested person has been shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
A case vide FIR number 26/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Khag and investigation has been taken up.
