GoI sanctions Rs 827.98 crore for 4-lane strategic highway project

Srinagar: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Saturday announced the construction and upgrading of a strategic four-lane highway that connects Srinagar to Leh.

The minister said the project will streamline access to vital regions, fostering regional security and boosting tourism.

Gadkari said they have sanctioned Rs 827.98 crore for the construction and upgrading of a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir. Spanning 12.11 km, the project aims to significantly improve connectivity in the region, benefiting both tourists and defense movement to Leh and Kargil.

“This project includes 1 major bridge, 3 minor bridges, 3 realignments, and 51 box culverts, alongside a 2.55 km elevated structure passing through Ganderbal Town. Part of Srinagar Ring Road (Phase-IIA), this highway will significantly enhance connectivity for tourists and defense vehicles traveling to Leh and Kargil,” Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India, said in a post on X.

“The project streamlines access to vital regions, fostering regional security and boosting tourism while improving overall travel efficiency,” he added.
