Centre sanctioned Rs 827.98 crore for 4-lane highway project in J&K

‘Project will boost connectivity, security, and economic growth in the region: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’

Srinagar: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the approval of a Rs 827.98 crore project to construct and upgrade a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir.

As per the details available with the news agency JKNS, spanning 12.11 km, the project includes one major bridge, three minor bridges, three realignments, and 51 box culverts. It also features a 2.55 km elevated stretch through Ganderbal Town as part of the Srinagar Ring Road (Phase-IIA).

Pertinently, the highway is set to enhance connectivity for tourists and defense vehicles traveling to Leh and Kargil, streamline access to key regions, and promote regional security and tourism.

Similarly, the project aligns with the government’s Gati Shakti vision, stressing progress and efficiency in infrastructure.

Also sharing on the social media X platform, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, wrote: In Jammu & Kashmir, we have sanctioned ₹827.98 crore for constructing and upgrading a 4-lane highway from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge, spanning 12.11 km. This project includes 1 major bridge, 3 minor bridges, 3 realignments, and 51 box culverts, alongside a 2.55 km elevated structure passing through Ganderbal Town. Part of Srinagar Ring Road (Phase-IIA), this highway will significantly enhance connectivity for tourists and defense vehicles traveling to Leh and Kargil.

“The project streamlines access to vital regions, fostering regional security and boosting tourism while improving overall travel efficiency,” Tweet reads further.

Notably, the newly sanctioned 4-lane highway project is expected to boost tourism in Jammu & Kashmir by providing easier access for travelers to key destinations like Leh and Kargil. Additionally, the improved infrastructure will provide a strong economic boost by facilitating trade, tourism, and local business opportunities in the region.—(JKNS)
