New Delhi: India on Friday asked Pakistan to take strong action against Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, the mastermind behind the 2001 Indian Parliament attack and 2019 Pulwama attack, amid reports that he had addressed a gathering in the Pakistani city of Bahawalpur.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: “Masood Azhar he is a UN designated terrorist. We demand that strong action be taken against him, that he be brought to justice. There has been denial, that he is not there in Pakistan. If the reports are correct, then it exposes the duplicity of Pakistan. Masood Azhar is involved in cross border terror attacks in India, and we want that strong action be taken against him.”

India had released Azhar in 1999 in exchange for freeing the hostages of hijacked Indian Airlines Flight 814 (IC814).

In his speech last month, Azhar vowed to renew jihadist operations targeting India and Israel in order to establish a global Islamic order.

The speech, delivered through an online forum, reportedly included threats against India, “India, your death is coming”.
