Srinagar, 06 May 2021.   Based on specific Jammu & Kashmir Police intelligence input about presence of four terrorists, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in general area Kanigam in South Kashmir’s Shopian district by troops of Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF on 05 May 2021. As the joint team of Security Forces approached the target cluster of houses, the terrorists attempted to escape, however, were pushed back in the cluster by the troops in the cordon. All four terrorists were recent recruits into terrorism and their family members were called to appeal to them for surrender.

Multiple appeals for surrender were made by the Jammu & Kashmir Police and the family members of the trapped terrorists. After persuasive efforts of Jammu & Kashmir Police and the family members, one of the trapped terrorist surrendered, while the other three terrorists lobbed a grenade to prevent him from surrendering. Grenades were also lobbed on the Security Forces along with pistol fire, to break through the cordon. The surrendered terrorist was saved while other three terrorists were neutralised, after they spurned surrender appeals. Restraint was exercised throughout the operation to avoid any collateral damage.
