Srinagar: Fire broke out in a school in Srinagar causing extensive damage to the building on Thursday, officials said.
As soon as the fire engulfed the building, all the students were evacuated to safety.
Fire and Emergency officials said that a fire broke out at 12.30 hours this afternoon in the three-storied “Muslim Public School” in the attic portion and engulfed the building in the posh Kursoo Rajbagh area.
The fire broke out when the school was functioning and the students were safely evacuated from the building.
Divisional Fire Officer (DFO) Zorawar Singh told media as the call of fire incident was received the fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the leaping flames.
He said as soon as the fire tenders reached the spot the upper portion of the building was fully involved.
The officer said the school staff had started the evacuation of the children and our men also conducted a thorough search of the building to ensure that all students have been shifted to safer places.
He said the fire was brought under control. However, the attic portion of the school buildings has been damaged.
Singh said that ten firefighting engines and a sophisticated Bronto sky lift, were pressed into service to douse the fire.
He said the cause of the fire will be known after investigation.
