12 Vaishno Devi pilgrims injured in Reasi road mishap

Jammu: At least 12 Vaishno Devi pilgrims suffered injuries while a driver was killed, and two others were injured in two separate accidents on Wednesday in Reasi and Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police said that a bus ferrying Vaishno Devi pilgrims met with an accident with a mini bus near Simbal Chowa in Reasi district.

“At least 12 Vaishno Devi pilgrims suffered injuries, and they were shifted to the hospital for treatment,” said police.

The pilgrims, they said, were heading towards Shiv Khori Shrine from Katra.

Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Visheshpal Mahajan also reached the spot.

He said that the mini bus was coming from the wrong side and hit the bus.

“The pilgrims have suffered minor injuries and all of them are safe,” he said, adding that the police have been directed to seize the mini bus and initiate action against the driver.

Meanwhile in a separate accident, a driver was killed and two others suffered injuries when a speedily driven chicken loaded vehicle on its way from Jammu towards Srinagar hit a canter parked along the roadside near railway station Banihal.

The driver identified as Bablo Kumar of Maitra, district Ramban died on the spot while two others travelling in the load carrier namely Ranjeet Singh,26, and Sunil Kumar,28, both residents of Ramban, sustained injuries and were hospitalised for treatment.

Police have registered a case and started the investigation.
