Kupwara , Oct 25 : Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Tangdhar Karnah, in collaboration with Block Medical Officer Karnah, Social Welfare Department Kupwara and ICDS Project Officer Karnah , organized an awareness programme on the “Right of Third Gender, Empowerment of Transgender and Gender Issues” today, on 24/October/2024 at Government Higher Secondary School Tadd Karnah. The awareness programme was held under the aegis of DLSA, Kupwara.

The program aimed to educate the Third Gender community about their fundamental rights, legal protections, and access to justice.

Advocate Mehboob Allahi and Advocate Farooq Ahmad Qureshi Resource Persons/ Panel Lawyers TLSC Karnah, emphasized the importance of third gender, transgender rights and highlighted the legal provisions that protect them from discrimination and violence. They also discussed the role of legal aid and community support in empowering third gender and transgenders.

On the occasion Mr. Mansoor Ahmad Mir (Munsiff/Chairman TLSC Tangdhar), Mr. Ghulam Mustafa (Principal GHSS Tadd), Mr. Gh.Nabi Sheikh (Project Officer ICDS Karnah), Dr. Mukhtar, Dr. Farah Muneer, Ms. Shagufta (Gender Specialist) also addressed the audience.

The program witnessed participation of Adv Abdul Majid Banday, (Secretary Bar Association Karnah), Mr. Khalid Mirchal (Sr. Prosecuting Officer JMIC Court Tangdhar), Mr. Waseem Budoo (SHO P/S Karnah), Mr. Suhail Ahmad (Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Karnah) Members of Bar Association Tangdhar, Staff of GHSS Tadd, ASHA Workers, ICDS Workers/Helpers and other Employees of Health, Social Welfare and ICDS Departments, Staff members, Panel Lawyers and PLV’s of TLSC Karnah.

The participants were also informed about the various welfare schemes launched by the government for the benefit of third gender and transgenders. They were encouraged to take advantage of these schemes for their overall development.

On the Occasion Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine was installed in GHSS Taad Karnah Baby Kits were distributed among postpartum mothers, Sports Kits and Sanitary napkin packs were handed over to school administration for distribution among girl students.

The programme concluded with an interactive session, where the participants raised questions and shared their concerns. The resource person and TLSC officials provided guidance and assistance to the participants on various legal and welfare issues.

The awareness programme was widely appreciated by the attendees. They expressed their gratitude to the TLSC Tanghdar and Health, Social Welfare and ICDS department for organizing such an informative and empowering event.

TLSC Tangdhar, Block Medical Officer, and Heads of Social Welfare and ICDS departments expressed their commitment to continue supporting third gender and transgenders and advocating for their rights. They encouraged participants to reach out for legal aid and support whenever needed.
