Srinagar, November 4: A tragic incident has left the family and residents of Dangerpora Sopore in deep shock after an MBBS student from the area was found dead in Bangladesh on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Adnan Altaf, a resident of Dangerpora Sopore, was pursuing his MBBS degree at Eastern Medical College in Cumilla, Bangladesh, and was reportedly in his final semester.
According to reports, Adnan’s body was recovered from a waterbody in Burichang Upazila on Wednesday morning, two days after he reportedly went missing. The circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be ascertained.
Speaking to JKNS, a family member said that Adnan had returned to Bangladesh around 15 days ago after spending some time at home. His mother had accompanied him during the return journey.
The family said they lost contact with Adnan two days ago and subsequently contacted his friends in Bangladesh to enquire about his whereabouts. They were later informed that he had gone missing, before receiving the heartbreaking news of the recovery of his body.
Adding to the family’s distress, Adnan’s mother is currently hospitalised in Bangladesh following the incident and is reportedly in an unstable condition.
The grieving family has appealed to the Government of India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka to intervene immediately and facilitate the early repatriation of Adnan’s mortal remains to his native place in Sopore.
“We have approached the government and requested its intervention to bring his body home as soon as possible,” a family member told JKNS, adding that they had also contacted the Chief Minister’s Office for assistance.
