Srinagar, Oct 25 (JKNS): Traffic Police City Srinagar on Sunday clarified that no candidate appearing for the Jammu and Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) was stopped from proceeding amid traffic arrangements put in place in the city in view of the Kashmir Marathon.
In a statement issued to news agency JKNS, Traffic Police City Srinagar said MA Road was open for normal traffic by 8:30 AM. Traffic was also allowed to ply from Mamta Chowk, Jahangir Chowk, Ikhwan Chowk and Radio Kashmir Crossing from the same time.
The statement said traffic on Boulevard Road towards Nishat was restored at 10:15 AM, while some JKSET candidates were also allowed to proceed from Nishat towards Dalgate from the same time.
It added that the only diversion remaining in force was at Habak Crossing towards Nishat, which was lifted at 11:45 AM.
“In view of the above, it is therefore clarified that there was no traffic snarl, but a pre-planned, well-publicised and regulated traffic diversion for a mega event,” the statement said.
Traffic Police City Srinagar said all possible efforts were made to ensure that no candidate appearing for JKSET was put to inconvenience.
The department said the traffic arrangements were implemented in a phased manner to facilitate smooth traffic movement while ensuring minimum inconvenience to JKSET candidates and the general public.
“Traffic Police City Srinagar remains committed to facilitating both the smooth conduct of prestigious events and the convenience of the general public and students,” the statement added. (JKNS)
