Srinagar, Oct 21 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest at Press Enclave in Srinagar, urging the government to address the long-pending demands and concerns of persons with disabilities.

During the protest, Association State President Abdul Rashid Bhat, as per news agency JKNS, called for concrete measures to safeguard the rights and improve the welfare of persons with disabilities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Bhat demanded the appointment of a Disability Commissioner in the Union Territory, saying the post was essential for addressing grievances and ensuring the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.

He also sought an increase in the monthly disability pension to ₹20,000–₹30,000, citing the need for stronger financial support for members of the community.

The association further demanded adequate reservation for persons with disabilities in education, employment and other sectors.

Bhat urged the government to take immediate and concrete steps to fulfil the long-pending demands and ensure effective implementation of welfare measures.

He said the association would continue to raise the concerns of persons with disabilities until their genuine demands were addressed. (JKNS)
