JK Sports Council, as per news agency JKNS, has extended its warmest congratulations to local fencers Mayank Sharma and Shivaansh Kapoor on their selection to represent India at the prestigious Asian U-23 Fencing Championships 2026, scheduled to be held in Manama, Bahrain, from October 27 to November 3, 2026.

Mayank Sharma has earned his selection in the Sabre event, while Shivaansh Kapoor will represent the country in Epee. This selection marks a significant milestone for fencing in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing immense pride to both the Union Territory and the nation.

Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Tazayun Mukhtar, extended heartfelt felicitations to the two athletes, lauding their relentless dedication, rigorous training, and commitment to the sport.

Expressing full confidence in their abilities, the Secretary wished them grand success at the continental championship, noting that their performances will inspire a new generation of aspiring fencers across J&K.

The selection follows intensive trials conducted by the Fencing Association of India on October 8 and 9 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to finalize the Indian U-23 squad.

The Council also commended the sustained efforts of the athletes, their coaches, and the broader fencing fraternity in nurturing grassroots talent and helping local sportspersons excel on national and international platforms.

Reaffirming its steadfast commitment, the J&K Sports Council pledged continued support for promising athletes and the holistic development of sports infrastructure across the Union Territory. (JKNS)
