Srinagar, Oct 7 (JKNS): The Department of Psychology, Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, commenced its week-long Mental Health Week programme with a workshop on “Clinical History Taking and Mental Status Examination” at the College Auditorium.
The workshop was aimed at providing students with a practical understanding of clinical history taking and the basic skills involved in psychological assessment.
The programme was hosted by Dr. Misbah Rafiq, who introduced the theme and highlighted the significance of mental health awareness.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq emphasised the importance of mental well-being in the academic, personal and professional lives of young women.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Sabahat Muzafar, MPhil in Clinical Psychology, who explained the process and major components of clinical history taking in a systematic and step-by-step manner. A mock clinical history-taking session was also conducted to demonstrate how the concepts are applied during an actual clinical interaction.
Students subsequently participated in a paired role-play activity, taking turns in the roles of psychologist and patient and practising the process of clinical history taking. The interactive exercise helped translate theoretical concepts into practical learning.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Misbah Rafiq. The session witnessed active student participation and provided a practical introduction to basic clinical assessment skills. (JKNS)
