Anantnag, Oct 2 (JKNS): Police have registered a case against National Conference MLA from Pahalgam Altaf Ahmad Wani alias Altaf Kaloo and party spokesperson Umesh Bhat alias Umesh Talashi following a complaint alleging assault on a police personnel deployed as the legislator’s Personal Security Officer (PSO).
According to details available with news agency JKNS, the case was registered at Police Station Anantnag after the PSO submitted a written complaint alleging that he was assaulted by the MLA and the party spokesperson while performing his official duties.
The complainant alleged that an argument with the two leaders escalated into a physical altercation, during which he sustained injuries.
Police have registered FIR No. 334/2026 under Sections 121 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), while further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Kaloo denied the allegations and termed them baseless, seeking a fair and impartial probe into the incident.
The MLA alleged that the police personnel was absent from duty and said a confrontation took place after he questioned him about his absence. He claimed that the policeman pushed him when asked to explain his absence.
Kaloo urged the Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, to conduct an impartial inquiry to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
He also appealed to the police authorities to verify the facts before issuing any official statement, maintaining that the matter should be examined objectively. (JKNS)
