Shopian, Sept 30 (JKNS): In a significant boost to road connectivity and public infrastructure in Shopian, construction work on a 1.7-kilometre alternate road connecting District Hospital Shopian with National Highway-444 (NH-444) is progressing, marking an important milestone in the development of the district.
The proposed road, sanctioned through the personal efforts of Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mr. Shishir Gupta, is aimed at providing a much-needed alternative access to the District Hospital and easing the traffic pressure on the existing road leading to the hospital.
At present, the District Hospital is primarily accessed through a single existing route, which frequently experiences congestion and traffic bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours. The new road is expected to provide an alternative and more efficient route for ambulances, patients, attendants and the general public visiting the hospital.
The new connectivity will also benefit residents of Pinjoora, Aglar, Pahnoo, Trenz, Pehlipora, Killora malikgund, Chitragam , Moolu, Dangarpura, Losesenow, Krawoora and others, providing them with an additional route to reach not only the District Hospital but also Shopian town, thereby improving connectivity for the surrounding population.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Mr. Shishir Gupta, today inspected the ongoing construction work and took stock of the progress achieved so far. During the inspection, he directed the concerned authorities and executing agencies to expedite the pace of work and ensure timely completion of the project, while maintaining the prescribed quality standards.
The project assumes particular significance as it addresses both healthcare accessibility and broader urban connectivity requirements of Shopian. By creating an alternative approach to the District Hospital, the road is expected to facilitate smoother movement of emergency vehicles and reduce congestion on the existing hospital access route.
Officials were also directed to ensure close monitoring of the work so that the project is completed at the earliest and the facility is made available to the public without unnecessary delay.
The 1.7-kilometre road, once completed, is expected to substantially improve accessibility to the District Hospital, provide an alternative route for the general public and strengthen connectivity between the adjoining villages, the hospital and Shopian town.
The project is being viewed as an important step towards addressing the growing connectivity requirements of Shopian and is expected to have a lasting impact on traffic management, healthcare accessibility and movement of the general public.
With the construction of the alternate link, Shopian is set to gain a critical piece of infrastructure that will provide a second access to the District Hospital while opening a more convenient connectivity corridor for the surrounding population.
