Sopore, Sept 29 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Police Sports Festival 2026-27, organised by Sopore Police under the Civic Action Programme (CAP), concluded today with a Grand Finale Ceremony at Khushal Sports Stadium, Sopore, marking the culmination of nearly 20 days of sporting activities held across Police District Sopore.
The festival witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 1,500 sportspersons, both men and women. Eight different sporting events, including Cricket, Volleyball, Handball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Cycling and Athletics, were organised at various locations across the Police District, providing young players platforms to compete and showcase their talent.
The Grand Finale featured an exciting Volleyball Final between Dooru Volleyball Club and Seelu Volleyball Club, with several players having represented at the UT and National levels. Dooru Volleyball Club emerged as the winner, while Seelu Volleyball Club finished as runners-up. The Cricket Final, played earlier, was won by Lala XI Sopore, defeating Wonder Boys Panzalla to lift the title.
A large gathering of participants, students, youth and members of the public attended the Grand Finale. The occasion was also attended by the Principal, Government Degree College for Women Sopore, Principals of Higher Secondary Schools, heads of various private educational institutions, ZEO Sopore, representatives of civil society and sports forums, besides officers from Police and Civil Administration.
During the concluding ceremony, winners and outstanding performers were felicitated, while the sporting spirit and enthusiastic participation displayed throughout the festival were appreciated.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Sopore Shri Iftikhar Talib-JKPS said that the initiative was aimed at providing youth meaningful platforms to showcase their talent, encouraging greater participation in sports and channelising their energy towards positive and constructive activities. He emphasised that sports promote fitness, discipline, teamwork, confidence and healthy competition.
He also thanked the educational institutions, sports bodies, civil society, Civil Administration and other stakeholders for their cooperation in making the festival a success.
Sopore Police will continue to organise sports and youth-oriented activities under CAP 2026-27, with a focus on encouraging local talent, creating meaningful opportunities for youth and further strengthening police-public relations at the grassroots level.
