Srinagar, Sept 22 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2026, paving the way for repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999 and providing transitional arrangements for self-reliant cooperatives under the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989.
The Bill was moved by Minister for Cooperatives Javid Ahmad Dar for consideration and passage during the ongoing autumn session of the Assembly, as per news agency JKNS.
The legislation seeks to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self-Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999, and provide for the transitional arrangement of self-reliant cooperatives under the 1989 Act.
The Bill is aimed at bringing the existing self-reliant cooperatives within the framework of the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989.
The legislation was listed as L.A. Bill No. 9 of 2026 in the Assembly’s List of Business for Tuesday. (JKNS)
