Srinagar, Sep 19 (JKNS): Around 2,100 Academic Arrangement/Contractual Faculty working in Government Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir have urged the government to increase their remuneration and provide year-round financial security.
A group of faculty members told news agency JKNS, the faculty members said that despite several of them being PhD, Post-Doctoral, NET and JRF qualified, they currently receive ₹28,000 per month, or ₹900 per day, for around eight months, with no remuneration during the winter period.
They said many faculty members work in far-flung areas away from their families, where expenses on rent, food and travel consume a major portion of their income.
The faculty members said managing families and children on the existing remuneration has become extremely difficult and urged the government to consider their demand on priority.
They said they have been raising the demand for years and expressed hope for a positive decision from the government.
The faculty members also said they had approached the Lieutenant Governor and that their file has reached the concerned Secretariat authorities.
“We are not asking for luxury, only a dignified livelihood,” the faculty members said, urging the government to take necessary steps towards improving their remuneration and ensuring year-round financial security. (JKNS)
