SHOPIAN,SEPTEMBER 12, 2026:
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Shopian, today organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 at the District Court Complex, Shopian, with the objective of facilitating the amicable settlement of cases and ensuring accessible, speedy and cost-effective justice.
The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Chairman, DLSA Shopian, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Shopian, in the presence of judicial officers and advocates of District Court Shopian.
For the National Lok Adalat, six benches were constituted by the DLSA to take up a wide range of cases. Besides advocates and litigants, a large number of citizens also participated in the proceedings.
The first bench was presided over by Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Shopian, along with Adv. Parvaiz Ahmed Malik. The second bench was presided over by Reyez Ahmed Chowdary, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, along with Adv. Gulzar Ahmad Najar.
The third bench was presided over by Mudasar Farooq, Secretary, DLSA Shopian, along with Adv. Iftikhar Ahmad, while the fourth bench was presided over by Ms. Bazila Bashir, Principal Magistrate, JJB Shopian, along with Adv. Shahnawaz Ahmad Raina.
The fifth bench was presided over by Ms. Rameen Rashid Khan, Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, along with Adv. Rafi Ahmad Ganie, while the sixth bench was presided over by Anjum Bashir Khan Khatak, Tehsildar, Shopian, along with Adv. Ajaz Ali Dar.
A total of 485 cases relating to recovery suits, traffic challans, civil cases, MACT cases, matrimonial matters, criminal compoundable cases and other civil cases were taken up during the National Lok Adalat. Out of these, 396 cases were amicably settled, involving a total settlement amount of Rs 37,86,225.
