The Intern Doctors have announced a strike from August 31, 2026, seeking an increase in their monthly stipend to ₹30,000.

The residents said Intern Doctors are an indispensable part of the public healthcare system and perform duties across hospital wards, emergency departments, operation theatres, intensive care units and outpatient departments, often working long hours while shouldering significant clinical responsibilities.

They said the existing stipend of ₹12,300 per month does not adequately reflect the nature of the interns’ duties, responsibilities and the rising cost of living.

“Their demand for a revision of the stipend to ₹30,000 per month is a legitimate demand for fairness, dignity, and appropriate recognition of their invaluable service,” the statement said.

The PG and Senior Residents urged the concerned authorities to take immediate and meaningful steps to address the genuine concerns of Intern Doctors and ensure an early, fair and just resolution of the matter.

“We stand united with our Intern Doctors. Their struggle for fair remuneration is a struggle for dignity, justice, and recognition,” they said. (JKNS)
