Srinagar, Aug 27 (JKNS): In a major breakthrough, Srinagar Police have arrested both undertrial prisoners who escaped from Central Jail Srinagar, within 72 hours of their escape, following a sustained intelligence-driven operation carried out in coordination with Rajasthan Police.

A senior police officer told news agency JKNS that, Police have apprehended both undertrial prisoners who escaped from Central Jail Srinagar, in Rajasthan, with the active coordination of Rajasthan Police.

The arrests have been achieved within three days of the escape, following a sustained, intelligence-driven investigation and the deployment of advanced investigative and technical techniques by a dedicated team constituted by Srinagar Police, officer said.

The action pertains to FIR No. 39/2026 under Section 262 BNS of Police Station Rainawari, registered in connection with the escape of undertrial prisoners Mukhtar Ahmad Gujjar S/o Mohd Rafiq Gujjar, R/o Sanglan Chitter Gul, District Anantnag, and Farman Khan S/o Abdul Gani Khan, R/o Sadanpora, Rajasthan, he said.

The investigation involved intensive technical analysis, intelligence development, field verification and coordinated interstate policing. The relentless efforts of the investigating team culminated in the identification, tracking and eventual apprehension of both accused in Rajasthan, officer added.

The Srinagar police team is presently in Rajasthan and is completing the requisite legal and procedural formalities for bringing the accused back to Srinagar, officer said.

The successful apprehension is the result of round-the-clock investigation, close inter-state coordination and effective utilisation of modern investigative techniques, he said.

The investigation is continuing in full force. All persons found to have conspired with, facilitated, sheltered, assisted or knowingly and wilfully provided any form of support to the escaped accused will be identified, questioned and dealt with strictly in accordance with law, he added.

The swift recovery of the escaped inmates within three days underscores Srinagar Police’s resolve, investigative capability and unwavering commitment to bringing offenders to justice. (JKNS)
