SMC Junior Building Inspector Gazala Akhter Suspended After ACB Arrest in Bribery Case

Gazala Akhter placed under suspension from August 20 following arrest in ₹10,000 bribery case; attached to Joint Commissioner Sanitation’s office

Srinagar, Aug 21 (JKNS): The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has placed Junior Building Inspector Gazala Akhter of Ward No. 28 under suspension following her arrest by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with a bribery case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

As per an order issued by the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, a copy of which lies with newsagency JKNS, Gazala Akhter shall be deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from August 20, 2026, the date of her arrest.

The action has been taken under Rule 31 of the J&K Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1956, following a communication received from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Srinagar, regarding FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.

During the period of suspension, the official shall remain attached to the office of the Joint Commissioner (Sanitation), SMC.

The order further states that she shall be entitled to subsistence allowance at the rate of 50 per cent of half pay and half dearness allowance, in accordance with Article 108-A of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Regulations, 1956.

The suspension order was issued vide Order No. 892 of 2026 dated August 21, 2026. (JKNS)
