Srinagar, Aug 15 (JKNS): Srinagar on Saturday witnessed a vibrant display of patriotism and festive spirit as the 80th Independence Day was celebrated across the city, with the Tricolour adorning streets and public spaces and citizens turning out in large numbers to mark the occasion.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, The main Independence Day function was held at Bakshi Stadium, where Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at the march past presented by contingents of security forces, police, NCC and students.

A special aerial display added to the celebrations as a helicopter showered flower petals over Bakshi Stadium, creating a colourful spectacle during the ceremony.

Across Srinagar, students and children were seen carrying the Tricolour and moving through the roads on bicycles, skates and other wheels, adding to the festive atmosphere and reflecting the enthusiasm surrounding the national celebration.

The city’s iconic Lal Chowk also wore a distinctly tricolour look, with the Clock Tower and surrounding areas witnessing a large gathering of tourists, visitors and locals celebrating Independence Day.

The celebrations marked a visible display of national pride, with ‘Vande Mataram’ and patriotic slogans echoing at several places as people joined the festivities.

A large number of tourists also visited Lal Chowk and participated in the celebrations, describing the atmosphere as peaceful, vibrant and markedly different from the tense image historically associated with the area.

The Independence Day celebrations across Srinagar featured cultural programmes, patriotic performances, flag displays and public participation, with children and young people particularly visible in the celebrations.

The festive scenes across the summer capital presented a colourful picture of Srinagar on Independence Day, with the Tricolour flying prominently from streets to public spaces and Bakshi Stadium serving as the centrepiece of the celebrations. (JKNS)
