Five Dead as Scorpio Plunges into Chenab River in Dachhan Kishtwar

Kishtwar, Aug 15 (JKNS): At least five persons lost their lives after a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle plunged into the Chenab River following a road accident in the Dachhan area of Kishtwar district on Saturday, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS that a Mahindra Scorpio bearing registration number HR29AG-0648, while travelling from Dangdaroo towards Sounder, met with a serious accident at Yainwan, Dangdaroo, at around 10:45 am.

The vehicle reportedly skidded off the road and rolled down into the Chenab River.

 

Soon after receiving information, a police team from Police Station Dachhan, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and launched rescue and recovery operations.

 

Officials said that five bodies have been recovered so far from the accident site.

 

The exact number of passengers travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident has not yet been ascertained, while the identities of the deceased are being verified.

 

Rescue and recovery operations were continuing till the filing of this report, and authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.
