Indian Army Strengthens Community Empowerment With Skill Development Centre At Hafthrada:

Kupwara, August 10 (JKNS): In a significant initiative aimed at empowering local communities and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the District Administration Kupwara and Umang Foundation, inaugurated a Skill Development Centre for Tailoring and Stitching at Hafthrada on Monday.

The initiative marks another important step by the Indian Army towards skill development, women’s empowerment and self-reliance among the local population, providing beneficiaries with an opportunity to acquire practical skills that can translate into employment and income-generation avenues.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Commanding Officer 12 MARATHA LI, District Information Officer Kupwara, Tehsildar Ramhall, BDO Ramhall, SHO Villgam, social activists, civil society members and other prominent members of the community.

The programme witnessed an encouraging response from the local population, with around 500 people, including nearly 300 men and 200 women, participating in the event.

The ceremony commenced with the laying of the inaugural stone by the Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Deputy Commissioner along with Ms. Sabnam, Tailoring Training Instructor.

The newly established centre is designed to provide professional tailoring and stitching training, enabling participants to develop marketable skills and explore avenues for self-employment.

The initiative is expected to particularly benefit women by creating opportunities for economic independence and strengthening their role in the local economy.

During the programme, Army representatives and civil administration officials interacted with the local residents and listened to their aspirations.

The gathering also witnessed a motivational address by the Deputy Commissioner, who urged the beneficiaries to utilise the facility effectively and turn the training into meaningful livelihood opportunities.

The inauguration reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to development beyond its traditional responsibilities, with a focus on empowering communities through education, skills and livelihood initiatives.

The initiative also further strengthens the close bond and trust between the Indian Army and the people of the region, demonstrating a sustained commitment towards inclusive development and the welfare of local communities.
