Srinagar, July 29 (JKNS): Calling the recently concluded Mega Job Fair 2026 a historic milestone for Jammu and Kashmir, Cluster University Srinagar Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Mobin on Wednesday said around 900 youth were either recruited or shortlisted during the event, while announcing a long-term partnership with Desh Bhagat University, Punjab, to organise regular job fairs and provide students access to recruitment drives across the country.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Prof. Mobin, as per news agency JKNS, said 470 candidates secured on-the-spot appointments, while 442 others were shortlisted for the next stage of technical interviews.
He said candidates from specialised fields such as engineering, nursing and mechanical engineering also received lucrative offers, with some packages touching ₹12 lakh per annum, particularly in the nursing sector.
“For fresh graduates, an initial salary of around ₹40,000 per month is considered a very good package. Even reputed companies like TCS offer similar starting salaries,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor said the job fair witnessed participation from over 50 renowned companies, including ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI Life, Wipro, Madhav Group, CNS Infotel, Credit Finance and several other leading firms from banking, finance, IT and corporate sectors.
He said employers highly appreciated the quality, talent and preparedness of students from Jammu and Kashmir.
“The feedback from companies was extremely encouraging. They were impressed by the calibre of our students, even without formal placement training,” he added.
Prof. Mobin said the job fair was deliberately made inclusive, allowing participation not only from Cluster University students but also from students across Jammu and Kashmir, including Kashmiri students studying in Jammu, Punjab, Haryana and other states.
He revealed that nearly 500–600 students from Jammu had also registered for the event.
Highlighting the major outcome of the event, the Vice Chancellor announced that Cluster University Srinagar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Desh Bhagat University, under which both institutions will jointly organise regular mega job fairs in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the agreement would also enable Cluster University students to participate virtually in job fairs organised outside the Union Territory by Desh Bhagat University, eliminating the need to travel while expanding employment opportunities nationwide.
“This partnership will ensure that our students remain connected with recruiters throughout the year and can participate in placement drives conducted anywhere in the country through virtual interactions,” he said.
Prof. Mobin further said the MoU includes provisions for industry-specific workshops, skill development programmes and faculty training, enabling students to acquire skills aligned with industry requirements and improve their employability.
He added that participating companies would also remain in touch with students, offering guidance and recruitment opportunities in future drives.
Describing the event as one of the largest placement initiatives ever organised by a university in Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Mobin said managing thousands of students and dozens of companies was a major challenge, but the programme concluded successfully due to meticulous planning and cooperation from all stakeholders.
He congratulated Amar Singh College, security personnel and organisers for ensuring smooth management of the large-scale event without inconvenience to participants.
The Vice Chancellor said Cluster University will continue organising such inclusive recruitment initiatives in future as part of its commitment to improving employment opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
