Baramulla, July 28 (JKNS): Baramulla Police on Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly gang raping a young woman and recording the assault on video after a sustained investigation aided by technical evidence and human intelligence, officials said.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, as per news agency JKNS, said the survivor approached Police Station Baramulla on July 25 and reported that she and a male friend had gone on an outing to Jalsheeri Drangbal when they were intercepted by two men.
SSP said the accused allegedly harassed the duo, physically assaulted them, and sexually assaulted the woman. He added that the accused also recorded the assault on video and later showed the footage to others.
He said the investigation was initially challenging as the survivor knew the accused only by their first names. However, through technical evidence and human intelligence, police were able to identify the suspects and arrest them on Monday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shakir Ahmed Lone and Mohammed Ashraf, both residents of Jalsheeri. Police said both are drivers by profession, while Ashraf, aged 27, is married.
SSP said both accused are currently in police custody and the investigation is being conducted in a fair, impartial, and time-bound manner in accordance with law. (JKNS)
