Srinagar Admin Issues Fresh Weather Advisory, Activates Emergency Helplines Amid Heavy Rain Alert Till July 23

Residents in vulnerable areas urged to stay alert; boating on Dal and Nigeen Lakes suspended, sand mining activities halted

Srinagar, July 21 (JKNS): In view of the forecast of heavy to intense rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir till July 23, the District Administration Srinagar on Tuesday issued a fresh weather advisory, urging residents to remain vigilant, avoid vulnerable areas, and strictly follow safety measures. Dedicated emergency helplines have also been activated to provide round-the-clock assistance to the public.

According to the advisory issued by the Office of the District Magistrate Srinagar, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, in continuation of the weather advisory dated July 19, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Meteorological Centre Srinagar, has predicted heavy to intense rainfall over the next two days, prompting precautionary measures across the district.

The administration advised residents, particularly those living in high-altitude and landslide-prone areas, including Lidwas, Dagwan, Mamnaith Top, Mulnar, Fakir Gujri, Harwan, Gandtal, Dara and Astanmarg, to remain alert and shift to safer locations if they observe rising water levels, landslides or any other imminent threat.

Tourists, visitors and local Shikara operators have been advised to suspend all boating and recreational activities on Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake during the weather alert to prevent any untoward incidents.

The advisory further directed sand miners operating along the River Jhelum and other water bodies not to undertake mining or river-crossing activities unless weather conditions and water levels are verified as safe.

For emergency assistance, the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Srinagar, has activated dedicated WhatsApp helplines 9103998355, 9103998356 and 9103998357, while the Police Control Room (PCR), Srinagar, can be contacted on 0194-2477567.

The District Administration appealed to the public to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and cooperate with authorities in the interest of public safety. (JKNS)
