Srinagar, July 21 (JKNS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Tuesday said moderate rainfall is continuing across many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with isolated heavy to intense showers reported from parts of Budgam, Kupwara, Baramulla, Ganderbal, South Kashmir and the Chenab Valley, while warning that the current weather activity is likely to persist for the next three to five hours.
Director Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, in an forecast as per news agency JKNS, said the ongoing spell of rain and thundershowers is expected to continue over many places, with brief spells of intense heavy rainfall likely at a few locations during the next 3–5 hours.
He warned that intense showers and thunderstorms over north-west and central parts of the Kashmir Valley, the Pir Panjal range, the Chenab Valley and the plains of Jammu could trigger localized flash floods, mudslides and landslides.
Dr Mukhtar also cautioned about the possibility of shooting stones and rockfalls at vulnerable locations in the hilly districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The MeT Department has advised people to avoid venturing near nallahs, streams and landslide-prone areas and urged the public to remain alert and follow official advisories during the ongoing spell of inclement weather. (JKNS)
