Kokernag, July 19 (JKNS): The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag has imposed restrictions on tourist movement beyond Bidhard and banned trekking to several high-altitude destinations in view of the forecast of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions over the coming days.

According to an advisory issued by the SDM Kokernag, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the Meteorological Department has predicted inclement weather, including the possibility of heavy rainfall, which may trigger landslides, shooting stones, flash floods and other hazards in the upper reaches of the sub-division.

The advisory states that, in the interest of safeguarding human life and property, no tourist shall be allowed to travel beyond Bidhard until further orders.

It further said that trekking activities on Sinthan Top, Choharnag, Fambar Valley and Margan Top have been completely prohibited until further orders as a precautionary measure.

The SDM has directed the concerned Station House Officers (SHOs) to ensure strict implementation of the order by establishing necessary checkpoints and preventing the movement of tourists beyond the specified point.

The advisory also warned that any violation of the restrictions shall invite action under the relevant provisions of law.

Authorities have urged tourists and visitors to cooperate with the administration and strictly follow the advisory in view of the prevailing weather conditions. (JKNS)
