Jammu, July 18 (JKNS): At least five Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh were injured after their vehicle collided with a stationary truck on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Jakhani, Udhampur, early Saturday morning.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha spoke with district and health officials, reviewed the condition of the injured, and directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment.
Officials told news agency JKNS, the accident occurred at Sangoor Chowk when a Toyota Innova, carrying pilgrims towards the Baltal base camp, rammed into a dumper parked on the roadside from behind.
Police personnel immediately rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and shifted them to the Associated Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, for treatment.
The injured pilgrims have been identified as Ansh (15), son of Rakesh Verma; Rakesh Kumar (44), son of Ram Naresh; Vishal Verma (21), son of Kamlesh Verma; Surjeet Kumar (20), son of Narinder; and Neerja Verma (33), daughter of Ram Naresh, all residents of Lakhimpur and Sitapur districts of Uttar Pradesh. The driver, a resident of Ganderbal, also sustained injuries.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, in a post on X, said he spoke with the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur and medical officials to inquire about the condition of the injured pilgrims.
The Lieutenant Governor said senior officials have been directed to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care for their speedy recovery.
“I pray to Baba Barfani for the safety, well-being and smooth journey of all devotees,” the Lieutenant Governor said. (JKNS)
