J&K Govt Reconstitutes Fee Fixation Committee for Professional Colleges

Srinagar, July 15 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reconstituted the Committee for Fixation of Fee Structure of Professional Colleges in the Union Territory, appointing Justice (Retd.) Mohammad Yaqoob Mir as its Chairman.

According to Government Order No. 1210-JK(GAD) of 2026 dated July 15, 2026, issued by the General Administration Department, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the committee has been reconstituted in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India in the Islamic Academy of Education vs State of Karnataka case and supersedes the earlier government orders issued in 2024.

The committee will comprise the Administrative Secretaries of the Health and Medical Education Department, Skill Development Department and Higher Education Department, representatives of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), besides a Chartered Accountant of repute, who will be nominated by the Chairman.

The Health and Medical Education Department will service the committee, while separate Member Secretaries have been designated for matters relating to the Health and Medical Education, Skill Development and Higher Education Departments.

The government has fixed the tenure of the committee at one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

According to the order, the committee shall function strictly in accordance with the directions of the Supreme Court regarding fixation and regulation of fee structures in professional colleges.

The order further states that the terms and conditions of service of Justice (Retd.) Mohammad Yaqoob Mir as Chairman of the committee shall be governed by Rule 4 of the Jammu and Kashmir Private Schools (Fixation, Determination and Regulation of Fee) Rules, 2022. (JKNS)
