While recognizing India’s legitimate security concerns and reiterating its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, the Association said meaningful dialogue remains an indispensable instrument for reducing tensions, preventing conflict and creating conditions conducive to enduring peace, association said in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS.

National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said the people of Jammu & Kashmir have borne the human, social and economic consequences of decades of conflict. Students, families, traders, border residents and ordinary citizens have often paid the highest price whenever relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated. Every escalation disrupts education, livelihoods, tourism, trade and development. It is therefore imperative that every sincere effort be made to promote peace, reduce hostility and create an environment where development, education and human welfare can flourish.

Khuehami welcomed the growing voices from across civil society, academia and public life advocating the resumption of dialogue and confidence-building measures between India and Pakistan. It also welcomed the recent remarks by RSS that India should keep its doors open for dialogue with Pakistan and continues people-to-people and civil society engagement, observing that such views reinforce the understanding that diplomacy and national security are not mutually exclusive but can complement each other in advancing long-term peace and stability.

The Association also welcomed the appeal by 100 prominent citizens from India and Pakistan for the resumption of dialogue between India and Pakistan as the only viable path towards lasting peace. It said his appeal was timely, thoughtful and reflected the wisdom and restraint that the present circumstances demand. Association urged India and Pakistan urging both governments to revive bilateral dialogue, restore communication, strengthen confidence-building measures and normalise people-to-people exchanges. Such initiatives, it said, reflect a growing recognition that sustained diplomatic engagement remains the most effective pathway to reducing mistrust, preventing future crises and fostering regional stability.

The Association asserted that India and Pakistan should continue talking. What could not be resolved over the past several decades may yet find new possibilities in an evolving global order shaped by dialogue, responsible statecraft and mutual respect. Dialogue should never be viewed as a sign of weakness or compromise on national interests; rather, it reflects confidence, political maturity and a commitment to pursuing peaceful solutions while firmly safeguarding sovereignty and national security.

History, the Association noted, demonstrates that even nations that have fought devastating wars have eventually returned to the negotiating table. Across Europe and other parts of the world, former adversaries have transformed conflict into cooperation through sustained dialogue, political courage and reconciliation. In the same spirit, India and Pakistan should continue exploring every peaceful avenue to manage differences and build a more stable future. Lasting peace is rarely achieved on the battlefield; it is built through sustained engagement, patience, mutual respect and political will.

The Association further observed that the importance of peace and constructive engagement extends beyond India and Pakistan. For the nearly two billion people of South Asia, stable and cooperative relations among countries including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are essential for unlocking the region’s full potential. Greater regional cooperation can accelerate economic growth, trade, connectivity, education, innovation, climate resilience and shared prosperity.

While the region carries the historical legacy of colonialism, Partition and prolonged geopolitical tensions, its future should be guided by a shared vision of peace, development and collective progress. South Asia’s greatest opportunities lie not in remaining captive to the burdens of history, but in working together towards larger common goals that benefit present and future generations. Khuehami reiterated that terrorism, extremism and violence have no place in any democratic society and must be confronted with firmness and resolve. Strong national security, uncompromising action against terrorism and meaningful diplomatic engagement are complementary not contradictory. Any dialogue must fully safeguard India’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests while creating opportunities to reduce tensions and prevent future conflict.

The Association said the greatest tribute to India’s soldiers, security personnel; martyrs and innocent civilians who have suffered because of conflict is to strive for a future where such sacrifices become increasingly rare. Preventing future loss of life through responsible diplomacy, while remaining uncompromising against terrorism, would be a fitting tribute to those who have laid down their lives in service of the nation. For the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, peace is not merely an aspiration but a necessity. A peaceful regional environment creates opportunities for quality education, employment, entrepreneurship, investment, tourism, innovation, academic collaboration, cultural exchanges and stronger people-to-people ties. The aspirations of young people can only flourish in an atmosphere of stability, constitutional values, democratic engagement and inclusive development.

“The time has come to recognise that war serves no lasting purpose. Peace is not a sign of weakness; it is the outcome of strength, wisdom and statesmanship. Dialogue is not an alternative to national security; it is an essential instrument of responsible diplomacy. A secure, peaceful and prosperous South Asia will ultimately benefit the people of both countries and, above all, the generations that will inherit the future,” the Association said. (JKNS)
