Shopian, July 2 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday advocated dialogue between India and Pakistan, saying the two neighbouring countries should work towards resolving issues through peaceful engagement and improving bilateral relations.
Speaking to reporters in Shopian, as per news agency JKNS, CM Omar said there should be no objection to advocating peace between India and Pakistan, noting that tensions between the two countries have persisted for decades and escalated further after last year’s Pahalgam incident.
Referring to a recent letter reportedly addressed to the Prime Minister seeking improved ties between the two countries, the Chief Minister said there should be no objection to such an appeal.
He also questioned why similar remarks made by leaders from Jammu and Kashmir attract criticism, while statements favouring dialogue by senior RSS leaders do not.
Citing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Omar Abdullah said, “Friends can be changed, but neighbours cannot.”
He said the objective should be to foster better relations between neighbouring countries through dialogue and peaceful engagement. (JKNS)
