Kupwara, June 26 (JKNS): A cloudburst struck the border village of Budhnambal in Karnah, Kupwara district, on Wednesday afternoon, causing extensive damage to agricultural land and infrastructure.
According to local residents, the weather changed suddenly around 3:00 PM, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms triggering a cloudburst. The resulting flash floods inundated fields and damaged crops spread across dozens of kanals, including potatoes, maize and rajma.
While no loss of life was reported, several houses sustained partial damage, and roads, bridges and protective embankments were also affected. Residents said the majority of families in the area depend on farming and daily wage labour, making the crop loss a severe blow to their livelihoods.
Locals have appealed to the administration for immediate compensation to affected farmers and the early restoration of damaged roads, bridges and flood protection structures to prevent similar disasters in the future. (JKNS)
